Press Release

Date: June 18, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco (TX-23), a former small business owner and proud representative of the 23rd District of Texas, spent the day in Brackettville on Friday, where he had the opportunity to visit with local community leaders, several local businesses and held a Congress on your Corner to meet local residents and listen to their concerns:

"Traveling to communities throughout the district and talking with constituents firsthand about their needs and concerns is one of the most important ways I stay accountable to the people of the 23rd District of Texas. On Friday, I had the pleasure of spending the day in Brackettville and talking with local businesses and residents there," said Congressman Canseco.

Congressman Canseco's visit to Brackettville included several meetings with small businesses and local leaders. "The top concern I heard about from local Brackettville businesses and community leaders was that we need to get the economy turned around and creating jobs. I also heard a great deal about the need to get Washington's spending under control. What I didn't hear in Brackettville was that the economy is doing just fine, or that the federal government isn't spending enough money." Congressman Canseco then discussed the jobs agenda in the House of Representatives, talking to constituents about the almost 30 jobs bills that have been passed by the House of Representatives but continue to go untouched by the United States Senate because of opposition from President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

During the Congress on your Corner, held at the Brackett Burger and Shake, Congressman Canseco met with local residents and got a chance to hear about their concerns and priorities. "I had the opportunity to meet with numerous local residents at the Congress on your Corner and hear about the issues that are important to them. While I heard several concerns, I heard quite a bit about how the Death Tax negatively affects family farmers and ranchers. I understand the challenges this tax creates for these local businesses, which is why I am a proud co-sponsor of the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act (H.R. 1259), which would repeal this unfair tax and ensure that farmers and ranchers can continue the tradition of passing along their land to future generations without interference from the federal government." During his visit, Canseco met with local leaders and businesses such as the Kinney County Chamber of Commerce and Kinney County Wool & Mohair Inc.

"I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with the constituents of the 23rd District of Texas so I can listen to their wisdom and take their common sense ideas back to the House of Representatives as we work on solutions to get our nation and economy turned around," concluded Congressman Canseco.
